1740 Salvage Late Point

Despite five wins on the bounce, the 1740 camp was rocked by the late withdrawal of their enforcer Arronzani. So much so, that stealth mode was deactivated for the ride in. His absence was felt early on the coach ride in to the game, where, without his usual motivational talk, discussion quickly drifted to Calcium Park Swingers and such. Apparently, rolling up to a swingers club solo is frowned upon. Who knew?

A tough game loomed against hardened and well organised opponents Los Betos, and a large crowd of approximately two had made the pilgrimage into the Home of Futsal to see if the 1740 juggernaut would roll on. After a fast start, where 1740 missed a slew of chances, it was Los Betos who settled the better and opened the scoring with a largely forgettable goal. I think it was Pete who got one back, but who can really remember? Either way it was 1-1 with halftime approaching and belief was back! With not much time remaining in the half, Los Betos hit the lead again while the 1740 defence was busy choking on one of Noodles’ farts.
A quick tactical adjustment at the break saw 1740 come out SWINGING and leveling things up with a well taken goal by Pete… I think. With about 5 minutes plus stoppage time remaining, a defensive lapse saw Los Betos once again hit the lead, and portions of the disappointed crowd began to head for the exits in their droves. If either of them had maintained the faith, they would have seen 1740 fight to the end where, despite yet another Frankonzani wonder goal being denied by the lower than regulation crossbar, they still managed to salvage a draw with a late equaliser from Talisman Mark Farr. Not a vintage performance, but a valuable point as the business end of the season approaches.
Full Time: 1740 3 LB 3
Best: Monster, Ludge, Farr, Pete
Worst: Noodles’ Guts.
